TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
 
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
 
AT 10 A.M., SEVERE TROPICAL STORM TRAMI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE
ABOUT 570 KILOMETRES SOUTH OF HONG KONG (NEAR 17.2 DEGREES
NORTH 113.2 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT
ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND
NORTHERN PARTS OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA TOWARDS THE SEAS
SOUTH OF HAINAN ISLAND.
 
IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, TRAMI CONTINUED TO MOVE WESTWARDS
STEADILY, SKIRTING TO THE SOUTH OF HONG KONG AT A DISTANCE
OF ABOUT 500 KILOMETRES OR MORE AND INTENSIFYING SLIGHTLY.
ITS OUTER RAINBANDS ARE AFFECTING THE COAST OF GUANGDONG.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF TRAMI AND THE NORTHEAST
MONSOON, THE ASSOCIATED STRONG WINDS WILL GRADUALLY AFFECT
THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY. LOCAL WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN GRADUALLY TODAY. AS WINDS WILL VEER
TO THE EAST GRADUALLY TODAY, SOME PLACES WHICH HAVE BEEN
SHELTERED BEFORE MAY BECOME EXPOSED. THE OBSERVATORY WILL
ISSUE THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO.3 AT 10:40 A.M. THIS
MORNING.
 
WITH TRAMI DEPARTING AND WEAKENING, LOCAL WINDS WILL WEAKEN
GRADUALLY TOMORROW MORNING. THE OBSERVATORY WILL CLOSELY
MONITOR THE MOVEMENT OF TRAMI.
 
THERE WILL BE SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO
STAY AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE, AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER
SPORTS.
 
(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 1 SIGNAL)
 
1. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF
OBSTRUCTIONS, AND WINDOWS AND DOORS SHOULD BE CHECKED.
 
2. PEOPLE IN AREAS OF EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS OR IN LOW-LYING
AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST STRONG WINDS AND
FLOODING.
 
3. THOSE WHO HAVE DUTIES DURING A TROPICAL CYCLONE SHOULD
NOW REMAIN ON CALL.
 
4. FISHING VESSELS AND LOW POWER VESSELS IN OPEN SEA SHOULD
SEEK SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND BE SECURED PROPERLY
WITH MOORINGS.
 
5. LISTEN TO RADIO, WATCH TV OR BROWSE THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY'S WEBSITE AND MOBILE APP FOR THE LATEST
INFORMATION ON THE TROPICAL CYCLONE.
