***************************************************************
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 1)
DISPATCHED BY HONG KONG OBSERVATORY AT 04:45 HKT ON 25.10.2024
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
AT 5 A.M., SEVERE TROPICAL STORM TRAMI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE
ABOUT 770 KILOMETRES SOUTHEAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 17.0
DEGREES NORTH 118.9 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST OR WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 14 KILOMETRES PER HOUR
ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS OF THE SOUTH CHINA
SEA.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, TRAMI WILL
MAINTAIN A DISTANCE OF MORE THAN ABOUT 600 KILOMETRES FROM
HONG KONG THIS MORNING. ITS ASSOCIATED STRONG WINDS ARE NOT
YET AFFECTING THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY. THE
STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE UNTIL AT LEAST
NOON.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF TRAMI AND THE NORTHEAST
MONSOON, LOCAL WINDS WILL BE OCCASIONALLY STRONG OFFSHORE
AND ON HIGH GROUND. HOWEVER, AS THE PREVAILING WINDS OVER
HONG KONG WILL MAINLY BE NORTHERLIES, WINDS GENERALLY OVER
HONG KONG WILL NOT STRENGTHEN SIGNIFICANTLY THIS MORNING
DUE TO TERRAIN SHELTERING EFFECT. THE NEED TO ISSUE STRONG
WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 THEREAFTER WILL DEPEND ON THE DISTANCE
BETWEEN TRAMI AND HONG KONG AND THE CHANGE IN LOCAL WIND
STRENGTH.
TRAMI IS EXPECTED TO MOVE GRADUALLY TOWARDS THE VICINITY OF
HAINAN ISLAND. LOCAL WINDS WILL WEAKEN LATER ON SUNDAY.
HOWEVER, THERE ARE UNCERTAINTIES IN ITS SUBSEQUENT
MOVEMENT. IT MAY LINGER IN THE VICINITY OF HAINAN ISLAND OR
EVEN MOVE EASTWARDS ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS
OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AGAIN EARLY NEXT WEEK. THE
OBSERVATORY WILL CLOSELY MONITOR THE MOVEMENT OF TRAMI AND
ASSESS THE NEED TO KEEP THE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL
IN FORCE.
