TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE NO. 8 NORTHEAST GALE OR STORM SIGNAL IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 63 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR OR MORE ARE EXPECTED FROM THE NORTHEAST QUARTER.
AT 6 A.M., SUPER TYPHOON YAGI WAS CENTRED ABOUT 380
KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.2 DEGREES
NORTH 112.6 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST OR
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE
NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA, MOVING IN THE GENERAL
DIRECTION OF THE VICINITY OF HAINAN ISLAND TO LEIZHOU
PENINSULA.
GALE WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH SUPER TYPHOON YAGI ARE AFFECTING
THE TERRITORY AND THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY,
WITH OCCASIONAL STORM WINDS OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH GROUND.
YAGI IS SKIRTING TO THE SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG. IT WILL
MAINTAIN AT A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 400 KM FROM THE TERRITORY
THIS MORNING. THE GALE OR STORM SIGNAL, NO.8 IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN IN FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL NOON TODAY.
BESIDES, THE INTENSE RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH YAGI WILL
CONTINUE TO AFFECT AND BRING HEAVY SQUALLY SHOWERS TO THE
TERRITORY. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD REMAIN ON THE ALERT.
SEAS WILL BE VERY ROUGH WITH SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE AND NOT ENGAGE IN WATER
SPORTS.

NGONG PING, CHEUNG CHAU BEACH AND NORTH POINT WERE 81, 62
AND 49 KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING
111, 77 AND 71 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.
