TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 3)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN

HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.

THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS IN FORCE.

THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.

AT 6 P.M., SUPER TYPHOON YAGI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 340
KILOMETRES SOUTH OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.3 DEGREES NORTH
114.6 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST
AT ABOUT 15 KILOMETRES PER HOUR CROSSING THE NORTHERN PART
OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.

YAGI IS A MATURE STORM. UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ITS OUTER
CIRCULATION, STRONG WINDS AFFECTED MANY PLACES OF THE
TERRITORY WITH OCCASIONAL GALE WINDS OFFSHORE AND ON HIGH
GROUND. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, YAGI WILL
REMAIN AT SUPER TYPHOON INTENSITY AND SKIRT AROUND 300
KILOMETRES TO THE SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG TOMORROW MORNING.
WITH YAGI FURTHER EDGING CLOSER, LOCAL WINDS WILL
STRENGTHEN PROGRESSIVELY AND WEATHER WILL DETERIORATE
TONIGHT. THE OBSERVATORY WILL ISSUE THE GALE OR STORM
SIGNAL, NO. 8 AT 6:20 P.M. THIS AFTERNOON. GALE WINDS
ASSOCIATED WITH YAGI ARE STILL EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE
VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY TOMORROW MORNING. THE
GALE OR STORM SIGNAL, NO.8 IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN IN FORCE
AT LEAST UNTIL NOON TOMORROW.

THE INTENSE RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH YAGI WILL AFFECT THE
TERRITORY GRADUALLY. THERE WILL BE HEAVY SQUALLY SHOWERS
TOMORROW. SEAS WILL BE VERY ROUGH WITH SWELLS. MEMBERS OF
THE PUBLIC SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE AND NOT
ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS. THOSE ENGAGING IN OUTDOOR WORK OR
ACTIVITIES SHOULD ALSO TAKE NOTE OF THE CHANGES IN WEATHER.

IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, WAGLAN ISLAND AND GREEN ISLAND WERE 72, 71 AND
59 KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING 106, 81
AND 90 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.
