PRESS WEATHER NO. 090 - TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 1)
************************************************************************
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 1)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN

HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.

THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.

THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.

AT 10 A.M., TYPHOON YAGI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 510
KILOMETRES SOUTHEAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.0 DEGREES NORTH
117.6 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT
10 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE NORTHERN PART OF THE
SOUTH CHINA SEA AND INTENSIFY GRADUALLY.

IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, YAGI TRACKED WESTWARDS STEADILY AND
INTENSIFIED. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, LOCAL WINDS
WILL STRENGTHEN GRADUALLY TONIGHT. THE OBSERVATORY WILL
CONSIDER ISSUING THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO.3, BETWEEN 6
P.M. AND 9 P.M. TONIGHT. AS YAGI CONTINUES TO EDGE CLOSER
TO THE WESTERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA COAST, WINDS IN THE
VICINITY OF PEARL RIVER ESTUARY MAY STRENGTHEN FURTHER IN
THE LATTER PART OF TOMORROW. DEPENDING ON THE MOVEMENT AND
CHANGE OF INTENSITY OF YAGI, THE OBSERVATORY WILL ASSESS
THE NEED TO ISSUE HIGHER TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL
BETWEEN TOMORROW AFTERNOON AND TOMORROW NIGHT.

THERE WILL BE SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD STAY
AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE AND NOT ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
