LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.


 
GENERAL SITUATION


SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD TROUGH OF
LOW PRESSURE AFFECTED THE COAST OF GUANGDONG AND THE
NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA YESTERDAY. LOCALLY, IT
WAS MAINLY CLOUDY WITH OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND A FEW SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS WERE HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE
AFTERNOON. MORE THAN 30 MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE
RECORDED OVER MANY PLACES, AND RAINFALL EVEN EXCEEDED 70
MILLIMETRES OVER SHA TIN DISTRICT. THE TROUGH OF LOW
PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BRING SHOWERS AND SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE COAST OF SOUTHERN CHINA AND THE
NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA TODAY AND TOMORROW.
SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES.


 
BESIDES, THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE NEAR THE RYUKYU ISLANDS
INTENSIFIED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AND WAS NAMED
JONGDARI YESTERDAY. AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, JONGDARI WAS
CENTRED ABOUT 310 KILOMETRES NORTHWEST OF OKINAWA. IT IS
FORECAST TO MOVE NORTH AT ABOUT 30 KILOMETRES PER HOUR
ACROSS THE EAST CHINA SEA.


 
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG


 
CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS AND SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS WILL
BE HEAVY AT TIMES. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 26 AND
29 DEGREES. MODERATE TO FRESH SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS,
OCCASIONALLY STRONG ON HIGH GROUND.


 
OUTLOOK : THERE WILL STILL BE SHOWERS AND A FEW SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS ON WEDNESDAY. SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES
AT FIRST. SHOWERS WILL EASE OFF GRADUALLY AND THE WEATHER
WILL IMPROVE IN THE FOLLOWING COUPLE OF DAYS. IT WILL BE
VERY HOT DURING THE DAY IN THE LATTER PART OF THIS WEEK.
