LOCALLY FELT EARTH TREMOR REPORT


 
(UPDATE) INITIAL ANALYSIS FROM THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY
INDICATED THAT AN EARTHQUAKE OF MAGNITUDE 4.3 HAS OCCURRED
AT 7:24 P.M. ON 4 NOVEMBER 2023 (SATURDAY) NEAR COAST OF
SOUTHEASTERN CHINA. THE EPICENTRE IS LOCATED NEAR 22.08N,
112.25E, ABOUT 39 KILOMETRES NORTHEAST OF YANGJIANG (ABOUT
200 KILOMETRES WEST OF HONG KONG). THE FOCAL DEPTH IS ABOUT
8 KILOMETRES.

THE OBSERVATORY RECEIVED OVER A HUNDRED LOCALLY FELT
REPORTS OF MINOR SHAKING, THE DURATION OF WHICH WAS A FEW
SECONDS. INITIAL ESTIMATE GAVE A LOCAL INTENSITY OF III
(THREE) ON THE MODIFIED MERCALLI INTENSITY SCALE, THAT IS
FELT INDOORS. VIBRATION LIKE PASSING OF LIGHT TRUCKS.
