TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 1)
DISPATCHED BY HONG KONG OBSERVATORY AT 04:45 HKT ON 06.10.2023
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 5 A.M., TYPHOON KOINU WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 420
KILOMETRES EAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 21.8 DEGREES NORTH 118.2
DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT 10
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE
SOUTH CHINA SEA.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF THE NORTHEAST MONSOON AND
KOINU, LOCAL WINDS ARE OCCASIONALLY STRONG OFFSHORE AND ON
HIGH GROUND THIS MORNING. AS KOINU CONTINUES TO EDGE CLOSER
TO THE COAST OF EASTERN GUANGDONG, LOCAL WINDS WILL
STRENGTHEN GRADUALLY TODAY. THE OBSERVATORY WILL CONSIDER
ISSUING THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 BETWEEN 5 P.M. AND 8
P.M. TODAY.
AS KOINU EDGES CLOSER TO THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER
ESTUARY IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, IT WILL WEAKEN SLIGHTLY
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE NORTHEAST MONSOON. WITH THE
CIRCULATION OF KOINU BEING RELATIVELY SMALL, THE NEED FOR
ISSUANCE OF HIGHER TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNALS BY THEN
WILL DEPEND ON THE INTENSITY OF KOINU AND ITS DISTANCE FROM
HONG KONG.
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF KOINU, SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT
TIMES LOCALLY ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY. THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED
TO TAKE NOTE OF THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETINS FROM THE
OBSERVATORY.
(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 1 SIGNAL)
1. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF
OBSTRUCTIONS, AND WINDOWS AND DOORS SHOULD BE CHECKED.
2. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF LEAVES AND RUBBISH.

NOW REMAIN ON CALL.
4. THERE MAY BE SWELLS. YOU ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
