PRESS WEATHER NO. 195 - TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 3)
************************************************************************
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN (SIGNAL NO. 3)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN

HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.

THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 WAS ISSUED AT 4:20 P.M.

THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.

AT 4 P.M., TYPHOON TALIM WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 290
KILOMETRES SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 20.8 DEGREES NORTH
111.9 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST
AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF
LEIZHOU PENINSULA.

ALTHOUGH TALIM IS DEPARTING FROM HONG KONG GRADUALLY, UNDER
ITS INFLUENCE, GALE FORCE WINDS ARE STILL AFFECTING THE
OFFSHORE WATERS OF THE SOUTHWESTERN PART OF THE TERRITORY
AT FIRST, AND UP TO STORM FORCE WINDS ON HIGH GROUND. THE
RAINBANDS OF TALIM ARE ALSO BRINGING OCCASIONAL VIOLENT
GUSTS TO THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY. THE
STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE TODAY. WHEN
TALIM MOVES FURTHER AWAY FROM HONG KONG, THE OBSERVATORY
WILL CONSIDER ISSUING THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 OR
REPLACING THE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL BY THE STRONG
MONSOON SIGNAL.

SEAS WILL BE ROUGH WITH SWELLS. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE
SHORELINE AND DO NOT ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS. THE PUBLIC
SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.

IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, CHEUNG CHAU AND TAI MEI TUK WERE 110, 82 AND 61
KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING 139, 105
AND 87 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.

(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 3 SIGNAL)

1. AVOID STAYING IN AREAS EXPOSED TO HIGH WINDS. DRIVERS
USING HIGHWAYS AND FLYOVERS SHOULD BE ALERT TO VIOLENT
