TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE NO. 8 SOUTHEAST GALE OR STORM SIGNAL IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 63 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR OR MORE ARE EXPECTED FROM THE SOUTHEAST QUARTER.
AT 10 A.M., TYPHOON TALIM WAS CENTRED ABOUT 260 KILOMETRES
SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 20.3 DEGREES NORTH 112.8
DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST AT
ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF
LEIZHOU PENINSULA, AND CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY.
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF TALIM, EAST TO SOUTHEASTERLY GALES
PREVAIL OVER HONG KONG, WITH OCCASIONAL STORM FORCE WINDS
ON HIGH GROUND.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, TALIM WILL SKIRT
WITHIN 300 KILOMETRES TO THE SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG
THIS MORNING. THE ASSOCIATED GALES WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT
THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY IN THE EARLY
AFTERNOON. THE GALE OR STORM SIGNAL NO. 8 WILL REMAIN IN
FORCE AT LEAST UNTIL 4 P.M. WHETHER THE SIGNAL NO.8 WILL
REMAIN IN FORCE THEREAFTER WILL DEPEND ON TALIM'S SPEED OF
DEPARTURE FROM THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY AND THE CHANGE IN
WIND STRENGTH OVER THE TERRITORY, AS WELL AS HOW PERSISTENT
THE GUSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE RAIN BANDS OF TALIM WILL
AFFECT HONG KONG.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF THE STORM SURGE BROUGHT BY
TALIM AND THE SPRING TIDE, THE TIDE LEVEL AT TAI O ONCE
REACHED AROUND 3.1 METRES, WHICH WAS ABOUT 0.6 METRES ABOVE
THE NORMAL TIDE LEVEL IN THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS. SEAS
ARE VERY ROUGH WITH SWELLS. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE
SHORELINE AND DO NOT ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS. THE PUBLIC
SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION.
IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, CHEUNG CHAU BEACH AND TAI MEI TUK WERE 107, 83
AND 73 KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING
138, 105 AND 100 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.

1. CONTINUE TO EXERCISE ALL PRECAUTIONS IN YOUR HOME. LOCK
ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS, INSERT REINFORCED SHUTTERS AND GATES
IF THEY ARE AVAILABLE. ADHESIVE TAPE FIXED TO LARGE
WINDOW-PANES IN EXPOSED POSITIONS WILL REDUCE DAMAGE AND
INJURY BY BROKEN GLASS. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF LEAVES
AND RUBBISH AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
2. PARK YOUR CAR WHERE IT IS SAFE.
3. DO NOT STAND NEAR WINDOWS ON THE EXPOSED SIDE OF YOUR
HOME. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO SHELTER, SHOULD
WINDOWS BE BROKEN.
4. FLIGHTS AT HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MAY BE
AFFECTED BY THE WEATHER. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR AIRLINE FOR
THE LATEST FLIGHT INFORMATION BEFORE DEPARTING FOR THE
AIRPORT.
