TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE NO. 8 NORTHEAST GALE OR STORM SIGNAL IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 63 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR OR MORE ARE EXPECTED FROM THE NORTHEAST QUARTER.
AT 2 A.M., TYPHOON TALIM WAS CENTRED ABOUT 280 KILOMETRES
SOUTH OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.8 DEGREES NORTH 113.8 DEGREES
EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 18
KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF LEIZHOU
PENINSULA AND HAINAN ISLAND, AND CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY.
UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF TALIM, STRONG WINDS PREVAIL OVER
HONG KONG, WITH GALES OVER OFFSHORE WATERS AND ON HIGH
GROUND. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, TALIM WILL
BE CLOSEST TO HONG KONG IN THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS, SKIRTING
WITHIN 300 KILOMETRES SOUTH OF HONG KONG. LOCAL WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN FURTHER. WINDS WILL BE STRONGER OVER
THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE TERRITORY AND THE GALES WILL
PERSIST FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.
THE GALE OR STORM SIGNAL NO. 8 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE BEFORE
7 A.M.. WHETHER THE SIGNAL NO. 8 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE
THEREAFTER WILL DEPEND ON THE CHANGES IN LOCAL WIND
STRENGTH, AND HOW PERSISTENT THE GUSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE
RAINBANDS OF TALIM WILL AFFECT HONG KONG. THE PUBLIC
SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION THIS
MORNING.
UNDER THE COMBINED EFFECT OF THE STORM SURGE BROUGHT BY
TALIM AND THE SPRING TIDE, THERE MAY BE FLOODING IN COASTAL
LOW-LYING AREAS IN THE MORNING. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
SHOULD COMPLETE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AGAINST HIGH WINDS

NGONG PING, TATE'S CAIRN AND WAGLAN ISLAND WERE 75, 70 AND
65 KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS EXCEEDING 100, 90
AND 71 KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.

EXPOSED POSITIONS WILL REDUCE DAMAGE AND INJURY BY BROKEN

2. DO NOT STAND NEAR WINDOWS ON THE EXPOSED SIDE OF YOUR

WINDOWS BE BROKEN.
3. FLIGHTS AT HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MAY BE
AFFECTED BY THE WEATHER. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR AIRLINE FOR
