HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.
GENERAL SITUATION
SEVERE TROPICAL STORM MA-ON MADE LANDFALL NEAR DIANBAI,
MAOMING, GUANGDONG YESTERDAY, AND THEN WEAKENED INTO A
TROPICAL STORM. UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF MA-ON, THE LOCAL
WEATHER WAS CLOUDY WITH OCCASIONAL HEAVY SQUALLY SHOWERS
YESTERDAY. MORE THAN 50 MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE
RECORDED OVER MANY PLACES. THE TIDE LEVEL AT QUARRY BAY
ONCE REACHED AROUND 2.7 METRES, AND WAS 0.5 METRES ABOVE
THE NORMAL TIDE LEVEL. SHOWERS ARE STILL EXPECTED OVER THE
COASTAL AREAS OF GUANGDONG TODAY.
AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, TROPICAL STORM MA-ON WAS CENTRED
ABOUT 130 KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF NANNING. IT IS
FORECAST TO MOVE WEST AT ABOUT 35 KILOMETRES PER HOUR
TOWARDS THE NORTHERN PART OF VIETNAM AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG
MAINLY CLOUDY WITH A FEW SHOWERS. ISOLATED SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MORNING. SUNNY INTERVALS DURING THE
DAY. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 27 AND 31 DEGREES.
MODERATE SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS, OCCASIONALLY FRESH OFFSHORE
AT FIRST.
OUTLOOK : BECOMING MAINLY FINE AND VERY HOT DURING THE
WEEKEND TO EARLY NEXT WEEK. A FEW SHOWERS IN THE MIDDLE AND
LATTER PARTS OF NEXT WEEK.
