TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
 
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
 
THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 IS IN FORCE.
 
THIS MEANS THAT WINDS WITH MEAN SPEEDS OF 41 TO 62
KILOMETRES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED.
 
AT 2 P.M., SEVERE TROPICAL STORM MA-ON WAS ESTIMATED TO BE
ABOUT 380 KILOMETRES WEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 21.7 DEGREES
NORTH 110.6 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE WEST OR
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 28 KILOMETRES PER HOUR INTO INLAND
GUANGXI AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY.


 
WITH MA-ON MOVING INTO INLAND GUANGXI AND WEAKENING
GRADUALLY, LOCAL WINDS ARE FURTHER MODERATING GENERALLY.
THE OBSERVATORY WILL ISSUE THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 TO
REPLACE THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL, NO. 3 SHORTLY.
 
OCCASIONAL STRONG WINDS ARE STILL AFFECTING THE HIGH GROUND
IN THE TERRITORY IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON. THERE WILL BE
SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
THE SHORELINE, AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.


 
IN THE PAST HOUR, THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS RECORDED AT
NGONG PING, GREEN ISLAND AND CHEUNG CHAU WERE 57, 45 AND 41
KILOMETRES PER HOUR WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS 90, 54 AND 51
KILOMETRES PER HOUR RESPECTIVELY.
