LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST

HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.


 
GENERAL SITUATION


UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A BROAD TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE,
LOCALLY IT WAS MAINLY CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS AND A FEW SQUALLY
THUNDERSTORMS YESTERDAY. SHOWERS WERE HEAVY IN THE MORNING.
MORE THAN 50 MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE GENERALLY
RECORDED OVER THE TERRITORY, AND RAINFALL EVEN EXCEEDED 70
MILLIMETRES OVER PARTS OF HONG KONG ISLAND AND KOWLOON, AS
WELL AS THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE NEW TERRITORIES. THE
BROAD TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BRING SHOWERS
TO THE COAST OF GUANGDONG AND THE NORTHERN PART OF THE
SOUTH CHINA SEA TODAY.


 
BESIDES, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE SEAS SOUTH OF
JAPAN INTENSIFIED INTO A TROPICAL STORM YESTERDAY, AND WAS
NAMED MEARI. AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, MEARI WAS CENTRED ABOUT
440 KILOMETRES SOUTHWEST OF TOKYO. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE
NORTH-NORTHEAST AT ABOUT 25 KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS
HONSHU OF JAPAN.

SUNNY INTERVALS IN THE AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE
