TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 10 A.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE NORTHEASTERN
PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 90
KILOMETRES EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY
(NEAR 22.6 DEGREES NORTH 115.0 DEGREES EAST) AND IS
FORECAST TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR EDGING CLOSER TO THE EAST OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, THE TROPICAL
DEPRESSION WILL MAKE LANDFALL IN THE VICINITY OF THE COAST
OF WEIDONG WITHIN THE NEXT FEW HOURS AND WILL WEAKEN
GRADUALLY. THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO.1 IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN
IN FORCE BEFORE 2 P.M.
WHEN THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION NO LONGER POSES A THREAT TO
THE TERRITORY, THE OBSERVATORY WILL CANCEL ALL TROPICAL
CYCLONE WARNING SIGNALS.
THE OUTER RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION
WILL CONTINUE TO BRING SQUALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE COAST OF GUANGDONG TODAY.
(PRECAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENTS WITH NO. 1 SIGNAL)
1. DRAINS SHOULD BE CLEARED OF LEAVES AND RUBBISH. PEOPLE
IN LOW-LYING AREAS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST FLOODING.
2. THOSE WHO HAVE DUTIES DURING A TROPICAL CYCLONE SHOULD
NOW REMAIN ON CALL.
3. THERE MAY BE SWELLS. YOU ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
THE SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
4. FISHING VESSELS AND LOW POWER VESSELS IN OPEN SEA SHOULD
SEEK SHELTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND BE SECURED PROPERLY
WITH MOORINGS.
5. CONSTRUCTION AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONERS
SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT OVERHANGING FACILITIES AND TEMPORARY
STRUCTURES OUTDOORS ARE SECURELY FASTENED, AND SHOULD TAKE
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES.
