TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 2 A.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE NORTHEASTERN
PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 200
KILOMETRES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 21.8 DEGREES
NORTH 116.0 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
WEST-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 KILOMETRES PER HOUR EDGING
CLOSER TO THE VICINITY OF THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK, THE TROPICAL
DEPRESSION WILL GRADUALLY EDGE CLOSER TO THE VICINITY OF
THE PEARL RIVER ESTUARY TODAY (4 AUGUST). THE ASSOCIATED
OUTER RAINBANDS WILL BRING SQUALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION. THE CIRCULATION OF THE
TROPICAL DEPRESSION IS RELATIVELY SMALL. UNLESS IT FURTHER
INTENSIFIES, THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE
UNTIL AT LEAST 6 A.M. TODAY. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE
ADVISED TO TAKE NOTE OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION
BEFORE LEAVING HOME IN THE MORNING.
