TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT
800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 11 P.M., TROPICAL STORM RAI WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT
370 KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 19.4
DEGREES NORTH 112.4 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE
NORTHEAST AT ABOUT 22 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE
NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT FORECAST, RAI WILL CONTINUE TO
EDGE CLOSER TO THE COAST OF GUANGDONG. IT WILL BE CLOSEST
TO HONG KONG AROUND NOON TOMORROW (21 DECEMBER), SKIRTING
WITHIN ABOUT 200 KILOMETRES SOUTH OF HONG KONG. IF THERE
ARE SIGNS THAT LOCAL WINDS WOULD STRENGTHEN FURTHER, THE
OBSERVATORY WILL CONSIDER ISSUING THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL,
NO. 3. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE REMINDED TO NOTE THE
LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION BEFORE DEPARTING TOMORROW
MORNING.
RAINBANDS ASSOCIATED WITH RAI WILL CONTINUE TO BRING RAINY
WEATHER TO THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AND THE
COAST OF GUANGDONG TOMORROW. MEANWHILE, THERE WILL BE
SWELLS. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM
THE SHORELINE AND NOT TO ENGAGE IN WATER SPORTS.
