TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN
HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED
BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT TWO TROPICAL CYCLONES NOW CENTRED WITHIN
ABOUT 800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 10 A.M., THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION NEAR THE TAIWAN STRAIT
WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 610 KILOMETRES EAST OF HONG KONG
(NEAR 22.8 DEGREES NORTH 120.1 DEGREES EAST) AND IS
FORECAST TO MOVE NORTH-NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER
HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE COAST OF SOUTHEASTERN
CHINA. MEANWHILE, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE CENTRAL
PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 760
KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 15.8 DEGREES
NORTH 112.0 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHWEST
AT ABOUT 10 KILOMETRES PER HOUR TOWARDS THE VICINITY OF
HAINAN ISLAND.
IN THE PAST FEW HOURS, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER TAIWAN
STRAIT MOVED NORTHWARDS STEADILY. IT IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN
GRADUALLY AND MAKE LANDFALL OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN COAST OF
CHINA THIS EVENING TO TOMORROW MORNING. ITS OUTER RAINBANDS
ARE AFFECTING THE EASTERN COAST OF GUANGDONG. MEANWHILE,
THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF THE SOUTH
CHINA SEA WILL KEEP A DISTANCE OF MORE THAN 500 KILOMETRES
FROM THE TERRITORY DURING THE DAY. ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT
FORECAST FOR THE TWO TROPICAL CYCLONES, THE STANDBY SIGNAL,
NO. 1 WILL REMAIN IN FORCE BEFORE THE EVENING TODAY.
