HERE IS THE LATEST WEATHER BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG
OBSERVATORY.
GENERAL SITUATION
A SOUTHWESTERLY AIRSTREAM BROUGHT THUNDERY SHOWERS TO THE
COAST OF GUANGDONG YESTERDAY. LOCALLY, IT WAS MAINLY CLOUDY
WITH SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS. SHOWERS WERE HEAVY AT
FIRST. MORE THAN 30 MILLIMETRES OF RAINFALL WERE RECORDED
OVER MOST PARTS OF THE TERRITORY, AND RAINFALL EVEN
EXCEEDED 70 MILLIMETRES OVER LANTAU ISLAND AND THE SOUTHERN
PART OF HONG KONG ISLAND. A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL
LINGER AROUND THE SOUTH CHINA COASTAL AREAS IN THE NEXT FEW
DAYS, BRINGING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION.
BESIDES, THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE NEAR THE RYUKYU ISLANDS
INTENSIFIED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION YESTERDAY MORNING,
AND WAS NAMED NAMTHEUN. NAMTHEUN INTENSIFIED INTO A SEVERE
TROPICAL STORM PROGRESSIVELY. AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT,
NAMTHEUN WAS CENTRED ABOUT 290 KILOMETRES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF
OKINAWA. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHEAST OR
NORTH-NORTHEAST AT ABOUT 18 KILOMETRES PER HOUR ACROSS THE
SEAS NEAR THE RYUKYU ISLANDS AND INTENSIFY GRADUALLY.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR HONG KONG (FRIDAY, 2 SEP 2016)
MAINLY CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS AND A FEW SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS.
SHOWERS WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE
BETWEEN 25 AND 29 DEGREES. MODERATE TO FRESH SOUTHWESTERLY
WINDS.
