New sections of GreenWay in Kai Tak open today (with photos)
************************************************************
The newly opened sections are situated alongside Victoria Harbour and the KTSP, offering users scenic views of the harbour and promoting integration with the KTSP, as well as enhancing the connectivity of open spaces in the area. With the opening of the two sections, the about two-kilometre GreenWay on the western side of the runway area, extending from Shing Kai Road Garden via KTSP Dining Cove to Kai Tak Promenade, overlooking Victoria Harbour, has been fully connected, with accessibility and connectivity significantly enhanced. To date, about 4.3 kilometres of the GreenWay within the Kai Tak Development Area are open.
Same as the GreenWay sections already opened, the newly opened sections have ground markings, signs and speed-reducing rumble strips in place to ensure safe use for both pedestrians and cyclists. Moreover, bicycle parking spaces are available, and there is a barrier-free walkway running alongside the GreenWay for pedestrians, offering an additional option for the public. At the initial stage after the opening, ambassadors will be present at the GreenWay to provide appropriate reminders to users. Furthermore, the KTSP will flexibly manage the opening hours of the GreenWay at the Dining Cove and implement crowd control measures as necessary, having regard to the events taking place in the KTSP.
The GreenWay in Kai Tak has a total length of about 13 kilometres. Following the about 4.3 kilometres already opened, the remaining sections are expected to be implemented and opened progressively from 2026 onwards to dovetail with government and private development projects in the area.
