Murder and arson in Castle Peak

At 6.59am, Police received a report that a fire broke out at a unit in Ting Fuk House, On Ting Estate.
Police officers sped to the scene and found a 50-year-old woman lying unconscious in the unit. Sustaining burns to her hands and injuries to her head and body, she was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 8.19am. A 51-year-old man at scene was found with injuries to his left hand. He was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state, and was later transferred to Castle Peak Hospital.
Initial investigations revealed that the man had allegedly attacked the woman with a knife and ignited papers and miscellaneous articles with a lighter inside the unit. Police arrested the man for murder and arson. He is being detained for further enquiries.
A twenty-eight centimeters long knife in suspected connection with the case was seized inside the unit.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.
Active investigation by the District Crime Squad of Tuen Mun District is underway.
