Kwai Chung Hospital announces suspected assault incident involving female patient

Kwai Chung Hospital today (May 1) announced a suspected assault incident involving a female patient:
An 80-year-old female patient in a psychiatric ward of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) was suspected to be assaulted by another patient last night (April 30), resulting in injuries to her left eye. Ward staff transferred the injured patient to Caritas Medical Centre for treatment immediately. Ophthalmic surgery was performed to the patient and her condition is currently stable.
KCH is very concerned about the incident. The hospital has promptly reported the incident to the Police. In order to ensure the safety of other patients, ward staff has restrained a 17-year-old patient in the same ward, who is suspected involving in the incident, amid to strengthen surveillance to the patient concerned. The hospital has explained the incident to the patients' family and will maintain close communication with them to provide necessary support and assistance.
The incident has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System. The hospital will fully co-operate with the Police in the investigation and will review the incident so as to ascertain patient safety.
