During the operation, a 79-year-old man suspected of dressing quails was arrested and will be charged with keeping livestock without a licence and operating an unlicensed food factory, which are in contravention of Section 3 of the Public Health (Animals and Birds) (Licensing of Livestock Keeping) Regulation (Cap. 139L) and Section 31(1) of the Food Business Regulation (Cap. 132X).
The FEHD officers seized and destroyed about 11 kilograms of dressed quails, while the AFCD officers seized 2 361 live quails, 3 976 quail eggs and two hatchers during the operation.
"The FEHD will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health. Under the Food Business Regulation (Cap. 132X), anyone operating a food factory without a licence commits an offence and is liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months upon conviction," a spokesman for the FEHD said.
