LegCo Panel on Development begins study visit to Shanghai (with photos)

The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Development began the three-day study visit to Shanghai today (December 19), to learn about the urban planning and management, new areas development, heritage conservation and revitalisation, and emergency response and disaster prevention work in Shanghai, as well as to observe through site visits the municipality's coastal and riverside development.
After arriving in Shanghai in the afternoon, the delegation visited the Shanghai Water Authority and exchanged views with the representatives of Shanghai Water Authority on issues relating to building a resilient city, flood emergency response work and implementation of infrastructure projects. Members were briefed that the Shanghai Water Authority is responsible for the construction and operation of urban waterworks and the formulation of plans for prevention and control of flood and drought hazards, etc. The delegation wished to make reference to Shanghai Municipal's experience to further enhance relevant infrastructural facilities in Hong Kong.
In the evening, the delegation had dinner with the representatives of Hong Kong organisations based in Shanghai to gain a better understanding of their work, businesses and lives there.
The delegation will continue its study visit to Shanghai tomorrow (December 20).
The delegation visits Shanghai from December 19 to 21. Led by the Chairman of the LegCo Panel on Development, Mr Tony Tse, a total of 16 Members participated in the study visit. Deputy delegation leader is the Deputy Chairman of the Panel, Mr Lau Kwok-fan. The Development Bureau's delegation led by the Secretary for Development, Ms Bernadette Linn, also joins the study visit.
