Deputy Commissioner of Police encourages graduates to inherit mission to safeguard Hong Kong (with photos)

     The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Yuen Yuk-kin, inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Hong Kong Police College today (June 24). He encouraged all graduates to uphold their faith in starting a police career, inherit the spirit of the Force, and continue to safeguard the country and Hong Kong.
      
     In his speech, Mr Yuen mentioned that he will end his 37-year police career in August. He sincerely thanked the Force for its cultivation and trust in him over the years, and for giving him the opportunity to take up different positions. He is very proud of being able to protect Hong Kong together with his colleagues in the turbulent days with the firmest beliefs.
      
     Describing the police career as a marathon, Mr Yuen believed that to run well, graduates have to work hard to complete the most rigorous training, and also equip themselves with professional tactics, so as to have ability and endurance to complete the decades-long race. He also pointed out that a policing career, like a long-distance running, will be full of challenges, but as long as the graduates can keep their faith, they will be able to overcome all difficulties and move forward.

     He guided the graduates to think about how to uphold police faith: Firstly, to understand the mission of being a policeman, i.e. safeguarding national security; maintaining law and order in Hong Kong and protecting the lives and properties of citizens. Secondly, to accomplish the mission according to the policy directives. The last thing is to be willing to sacrifice to inherit the honour and mission of the Police, just like the predecessors and serving colleagues who have stepped forward when various challenges to Hong Kong's law and order arise. He added that their selfless dedication is definitely a role model for the graduates, and it is also the spirit that the new generation of the Police needs to pass on.
      
     Mr Yuen said the Force must stay alert to threats and dangers in times of peace as the society is entering a phase of advancing from stability to prosperity. Saying that safeguarding Hong Kong is the Force’s forever mission, he believed that the mission will always be passed on from generation to generation, and the efforts of the Force will definitely ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of “one country, two systems”.
      
     A total of 32 probationary inspectors and 110 recruit police constables passed out today. This is also the first time the Police Band Cadet to join the Police Band to stage music and marching performance at the passing-out parade.
