Award presentation for Water Safety Campaign slogan and graphic design competitions held today (with photos)

This year's entries to the two competitions were ingeniously designed, demonstrating students' creativity and artistic skills. The organisers have adopted the champion entries in the secondary school sections of both competitions this year for the production of this year's campaign poster.
Addressing the ceremony, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) of the LCSD Mr Henry Wong said swimming is one of the most popular leisure activities in Hong Kong. There were more than 13 million visits to the public beaches and swimming pools managed by the LCSD last year. He appealed to members of the public to take heed of water safety advice while enjoying the fun of swimming.
Mr Wong said that the theme of the two competitions aimed at urging people to swim at gazetted beaches with lifesaving services, and avoid swimming outside the swimming zone for safety's sake. He added that swimmers should enter the water only when lifeguard services are provided and they should stay within the swimming zone to avoid accidents.
There are shark prevention nets at the LCSD's gazetted beaches with lifesaving services. Moreover, areas suitable for swimming are indicated by red or orange boom lines in the beaches and are attended by professional lifeguards. In case of sudden changes in weather conditions, venue staff will immediately alert swimmers through the announcement system to stay out of the water and take a shelter under covered area.
Mr Wong also thanked the HKLSS for actively promoting and organising various lifesaving trainings, examinations and competitions, providing lifesaving services over the years as well as striving to nurture lifesavers so as to maintain lifesaving services for all aquatic venues in Hong Kong and safeguard the lives of swimmers.
The winning entries from the two competitions are now on display at the entrance lobby of Kowloon Park Swimming Pool's spectator stand until July 6. They can also be viewed on the LCSD webpages at www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/swimhandbook/poster/2023wscgdresult.html (graphic design competition) and www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/swimhandbook/slogan/2023wscslogan.html (Chinese slogan competition).
