HKO and Thai Meteorological Department renew MOU to further strengthen meteorological collaboration (with photo)
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) renewed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) yesterday (May 31, Geneva time) during the 19th World Meteorological Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, to further strengthen meteorological collaboration. The renewed MOU was signed by the Director of the HKO, Mr Chan Pak-wai, and the Director-General of the TMD, Dr Chomparee Chompurat.
At the signing ceremony, Mr Chan said, "The HKO and the TMD have a long history of co-operation. The renewal of the MOU further fortifies the connections between the two organisations and propels various collaborations in meteorological science and technology. I am confident that the synergy of the collaboration will enable us to better cope with the challenges of climate change and various weather hazards."
Dr Chompurat said, "The renewed MOU has a wider scope of co-operation to meet social needs. I strongly believe that the renewal of the MOU will enable the TMD and the HKO to support each other to further improve meteorological services and contribute to the development of regional and global weather services and the action plan of Early Warnings for All against natural disasters."
The HKO and the TMD first signed the MOU on meteorological collaboration in 2017. Under the renewed MOU, the scope of co-operation between the two parties will include weather forecasting, telecommunications, aeronautical meteorology, marine meteorology and international co-operation.
