Facilities on ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall temporarily closed
***************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (March 25) announced that the whole ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall was closed for an urgent inspection until further notice as concrete spalling was found there.
The area concerned was located at a female washroom near the Administration Office in Sha Tin Town Hall. On March 23, a cleaning worker found an abnormality of the false ceiling and notified the town hall staff. The town hall staff immediately arranged for an inspection and found two pieces of concrete fallen inside the false ceiling area. The concrete pieces had not damaged the false ceiling or fell further into the washroom. No injury was reported in the incident.
Upon further checking of other facilities of the town hall by the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) officers, minor abnormality was also found on some of the ceiling above the corridor on the ground floor on March 24. The LCSD had immediately cordoned off the area concerned.
The LCSD attaches great importance to the incident. For the sake of safety, the whole ground floor of Sha Tin Town Hall has been closed from today for an urgent inspection and affected hirers were notified. The LCSD has also requested the ArchSD to conduct a thorough inspection of the ceiling of the whole building premises. The ArchSD officers sped to the scene for assistance and arranged maintenance work immediately.
