LegCo Public Works Subcommittee visits Light Public Housing mock-up unit (with photos)
**************************************************************************************
The Legislative Council (LegCo) Public Works Subcommittee visited the Light Public Housing (LPH) mock-up unit set at the Kai Tak Community Isolation Facility today (January 30) to learn about the latest progress of the LPH projects.
Members first received a briefing from the Secretary for Housing, Ms Winnie Ho, on the LPH projects. Members then toured the LPH mock-up unit with the company of Ms Ho to see for themselves the design and facilities of LPH. Members also took the opportunity to exchange views with the Administration on the implementation of the LPH policy initiative.
The Administration rolled out an initiative to introduce the LPH. The Administration will make use of government and private land with no development plan in the near future, and adopt standardised simple design and the Modular Integrated Construction approach, to build about 30 000 LPH units in the coming five years, mainly for applicants who have been waiting for traditional public rental housing for three years or more. The Administration plans to submit a funding proposal to the LegCo later.
At the invitation of the Administration, a total of 32 members and non-members of the Public Works Subcommittee attended the visit.
