The Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law, addressed the audience before the screening of the opening film, "Septet: The Story of Hong Kong". "Seven prominent directors have crafted 'Septet: The Story of Hong Kong', a masterpiece depicting the history and evolution of Hong Kong through their unique artistic visions. The film captures the lives of its people as well as their dreams and aspirations over the years. It showcases the abundance of Hong Kong's creative talents," Mr Law remarked.
Mr Law highlighted that, capitalising on its sophisticated fusion of East and West, Hong Kong is determined to become a centre for international cultural exchange as supported by the National 14th Five-Year Plan. Mr Law added, "Hong Kong has all along been the home to a number of globally acclaimed platforms for fostering the development of arts, cultural and creative industries, including Art Basel Hong Kong, Hong Kong International Film & TV Market and Business of Design Week. Mega projects such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival, the first Hong Kong Performing Arts Market and the Chinese Opera Festival are also in the pipeline. Our vibrant and diverse creative industries are shouldering the essential role of telling the world the good stories of Hong Kong."
Mr Law further updated the audience on Hong Kong's lifting of travel restrictions and certain social distancing measures as well as the progressive resumption of normal travel between the Mainland and Hong Kong. He encouraged the audience to visit Hong Kong in person and explore its vibrancy for themselves.
