Eight persons sentenced for violating anti-epidemic regulations

The first four cases involved three women and one man of age 27, 76, 54 and 41 respectively. They earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, they left the place of isolation on July 22, October 3, September 6 and November 12 last year respectively. They were each charged with one count of contravening sections 23(1), (3) and (5) of Cap. 599A respectively. The 27-year-old woman and 76-year-old woman were each fined $6,000 respectively by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 54-year-old woman was sentenced to imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 12 months and a fine of $3,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today. The 41-year-old man was fined $5,000 by the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today.
The fifth case involved a 29-year-old woman who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and was issued with an isolation order. Before the end of the isolation period, she left the place of isolation and removed her electronic wristband on October 14 last year. She was charged with one count of contravening sections 23(1), (4) and (5) and one count of contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of Cap. 599A and was fined a total of $16,000 by the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today.
The remaining three cases involved two women and one man of age 60, 56 and 42 respectively. During the epidemiological investigation by the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health (DH) in May last year, they provided false information to authorised officers about their presence and activity at a food factory in Kwun Tong. The 60-year-old woman and 56-year-old woman were charged with one count of contravening section 3(4) of Cap. 599D respectively. The 60-year-old woman was fined $6,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 56-year-old woman was bound over for 12 months with a recognisance of $1,500 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 42-year-old man was charged with three counts of contravening section 3(4) of Cap. 599D and was fined a total of $6,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today.
A spokesman for the DH said that co-operation and support by members of the public play a critical role in the anti-epidemic work. They must strictly observe relevant requirements in order to fight the pandemic and minimise the risk of transmission in the community. The spokesman reiterated that resolute actions will be taken against anyone who breaches the relevant regulations.
