Sitting-out Area under Flyover in Hill Road to reopen after refurbishment (with photos)

The LCSD collaborated with the Architectural Services Department, the former Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office and the Design Trust Futures Studio concept design team to carry out the facility renovation project for the SOA.The project not only improves the environment of the SOA, but also promotes the co-operation between local communities and stakeholders from the public and private sectors through an exchange of ideas and experience sharing.
A playful approach has been adopted for design of the SOA built on a slope ground, taking the vertical height of the flyover on Hill Road as a major consideration. A number of hill-shaped facilities and animated lighting installations together with benches, public spaces and chess tables are provided to bring new perceptions and experiences to residents and users. Elements of historical events of the Central and Western District are also cleverly inscribed into the design by the concept design team, blending the old with the new in the design of this open space and interactive area beneath the flyover.
The LCSD is carrying out refurbishment works at the Hamilton Street Rest Garden in Yau Tsim Mong District progressively, aiming to bring innovative designs and arts elements to small outdoor leisure venues with high visitor flows, and to improve these older public spaces.
