***************************************************************
The Environment and Ecology Bureau (EEB) today (December 12) announced that on November 29, the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan, was elected to the Steering Committee of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) as a C40 Steering Committee member for the Central East Asia Region.
Hong Kong has been an active participant in global efforts to combat climate change, and is among the earliest cities in Asia taking actions to combat climate change. Hong Kong is fully committed to the full implementation of the decarbonisation strategies set out in the Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050, striving to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050. Mr Tse said he is looking forward to working closely with the fellow C40 cities to overcome a climate crisis.
Founded in 2005, C40 is committed to connecting cities around the world to jointly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and practise a green economy. Hong Kong joined C40 as a member city in October 2007 and has been a member of the Steering Committee since 2011. Mr Tse participated online in the C40 World Mayors Summit held in Buenos Aires this October, and delivered a speech in the form of a video recording to introduce to the C40 cities the development of green finance in Hong Kong.
