Four persons sentenced for violating Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation or Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving at Hong Kong Regulation

The first two cases involved a 23-year-old man and a 72-year-old man, who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, they left the place of isolation on September 16 and August 15 respectively. Both of them were charged with contravening sections 32(1) and 32(3) of Cap. 599A. They were respectively sentenced to imprisonment for three weeks, suspended for 12 months; and imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 12 months, by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.
The other two cases involved a 55-year-old man and a 61-year-old man, who were earlier issued with compulsory quarantine orders. Before the expiry of the quarantine order, they left the place of quarantine on May 17, 2021, and April 18, 2022, respectively. The 55-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 8(1) and 8(5) of Cap. 599C and was sentenced to imprisonment for seven days, suspended for 12 months and was fined $5,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today. The 61-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 32(1) and 32(3) of Cap. 599A and was sentenced to imprisonment for two weeks, suspended for 15 months and was fined $3,000 by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today.
A spokesman for the Department of Health said that co-operation of and support by members of the public play a critical role in the anti-epidemic work. They must strictly observe relevant requirements in order to fight the pandemic and minimise the risk of transmission in the community. The spokesman reiterated that resolute action will be taken against anyone who has breached the relevant regulations.
