Public consultation on Strategic Studies on Railways and Major Roads beyond 2030 launched
*****************************************************************************************
The Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB) together with the Highways Department (HyD) and the Transport Department (TD) launched the public consultation exercise for Strategic Studies on Railways and Major Roads beyond 2030 (RMR2030+ Study) and published the relevant public consultation document today (December 2). The public consultation period will end on March 31, 2023. Various stakeholders will be consulted during the period to collect public views for formulating a Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint for Hong Kong.

The RMR2030+ Study seeks to formulate a forward-looking Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint for Hong Kong up to and beyond 2046 with a view to achieving the goals of "driving development", "strengthening connection" and "improving efficiency". The RMR2030+ Study adopts the "infrastructure-led" and "capacity- creating" planning principles to ensure that the planning of strategic railway and major road infrastructure can drive development or even reserve capacity for new development areas, especially the Northern Metropolis, for the long-term development needs of Hong Kong.

A spokesperson for the TLB said, "Based on the preliminary findings of the RMR2030+, we recommend taking forward three strategic railways and three major roads, namely the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu - Qianhai), the Central Rail Link, the Tseung Kwan O Line Southern Extension, the Northern Metropolis Highway, the Shatin Bypass and the Tseung Kwan O - Yau Tong Tunnel. Public participation is crucial to the Study. We will duly consider the views of members of the public and stakeholders on the preliminary findings of the RMR2030+ Study and its proposed transport infrastructure projects. We aim to formulate the Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint for Hong Kong in the fourth quarter of 2023 and implement the required transport infrastructure projects in a timely manner."

Details of the public consultation exercise and documents can be found on the thematic website for the RMR2030+ Study (www.RMR2030plus.hk). Hard copies of the relevant public consultation document will be available at HyD Headquarters, TD Headquarters and its four Licensing Offices, Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department and public libraries from next Monday (December 5).
