Hong Kong Customs detects drug trafficking case using electric transformers involving suspected methamphetamine worth about $46 million (with photo)

Through risk assessment, Customs on that day inspected an air cargo consignment, declared as carrying transformers, arriving from Mexico en route to Australia via Hong Kong at the airport. Upon inspection, Customs officers found the batch of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside the false compartments inside three electric transformers.
An investigation is ongoing.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
