Hong Kong Customs yesterday (September 28) seized about 11 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated market value of about $6.7 million in Sheung Shui. A man was arrested.
 
     During an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Sheung Shui yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a 15-year-old male and found that the batch of suspected methamphetamine was concealed inside some tea leaf packaging bags in a suitcase carried by him. The man was then arrested.
 
     A holding charge with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug has been laid against the arrested man. He will appear at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (September 30).
 
     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
 
     Young people should especially pay attention to the fact that drug trafficking is a serious criminal offence. Criminal conviction will result in grave repercussions for their future and they should not take risks in the hope that they may not be caught. Parents should also keep an eye on their children's friends to prevent their children from taking drugs or participating in drug trafficking activities under peer influence and pay attention to whether they have income from unknown sources.
