SCS inspects COVID-19 vaccination event under pilot scheme in Wong Tai Sin (with photos)
****************************************************************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, visited a primary school in Tsz Wan Shan this afternoon (September 18) to inspect a community vaccination event organised by the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) and the Wong Tai Sin District Office there and to learn about residents' response to a pilot scheme to visit elderly to encourage them to receive COVID-19 vaccination.

Under the scheme, Wong Tai Sin district was used as the trial run district. The CSB, the Home Affairs Department and the Housing Department worked with the Wong Tai Sin Community Anti-Coronavirus Link and the Hong Kong Association of Property Services Agents and went door-to-door for two consecutive days starting from yesterday (September 17) to actively persuade elderly residents aged 70 or above and living in Tsz Hong and Tsz Man Estates to receive their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine or get vaccinated on time, and arrange them for receiving the Sinovac or the BioNTech vaccine at the community vaccination event organised in the district. Residents with special needs were also arranged to get vaccinated through the Home Vaccination Service today.

A total of 456 persons received their COVID-19 vaccination through the outreach service in the primary school which was closed for the evening. Another five persons got vaccinated through the Home Vaccination Service. Amongst these 461 persons, 20 of them received their first dose.

In addition, four unvaccinated elderly persons have been convinced by volunteers and made reservations for joining a vaccination event later or door-to-door vaccination service.

Mrs Yeung said that the Government has increased vaccination channels over the past two months and introduced targeted facilitating measures particularly for children and elderly persons, including provision of vaccination service at Maternal and Child Health Centres, enhancing efficiency of the Home Vaccination Service, lowering the threshold for school outreach vaccination service to 10 persons, setting up of Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations, in a bid to provide services and options with greater convenience and efficiency to members of the public and to encourage the early vaccination of the young and old for self-protection.

"The objective of COVID-19 vaccination is to reduce critical cases and death and it is very clear that people should receive at least three doses. More than 12.6 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, and over 19 million vaccine doses have been administered in Hong Kong. Both COVID-19 vaccines available in Hong Kong are safe and efficient. I hope members of the public can actively arrange vaccination for the young and old in their family, while parents and elderly persons can listen to advice from experts on vaccination, treasure the valuable vaccines and get vaccinated early for protection. The epidemic is yet to subside. As such, we have to get well prepared for winter and now is the time for vaccination and complete the recommended doses to maintain the level of protection conferred by the vaccine," she said.
