HKETONY promotes Hong Kong at Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival (with photos)

The first Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival was held in 1995 with only seven teams. This year, the festival was joined by 56 teams, comprising paddlers from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Among them were members of the Hong Kong Student Association at the Georgia Institute of Technology, competing in the festival as the Hong Kong Dragon Riders team.
Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Director of the HKETONY, Ms Candy Nip, said that she was glad that after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the festival paddled its way back to the Lake Lanier Olympic Park in full scale.
She added that this year's festival was particularly meaningful; on top of celebrating its own Silver Jubilee, the event also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It was exciting to see, she said, that the festival had become a symbol of Hong Kong's dynamism, vibrancy and vitality.
Onshore, the HKETONY staged a mini-exhibition featuring illustrations by artist Stella So to showcase the unique cultural heritage of Hong Kong. Videos on Hong Kong's attractions were also featured at the festival.
