**********************************************************************
The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak, officiated at the kick-off ceremony of the YDC Youth Ambassadors Programme 2022 today (August 27). The Programme is a flagship youth talent development programme co-organised by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) and the Youth Development Commission (YDC). The Programme aims at identifying and grooming a cadre of young talents with a sense of responsibility, with aspirations and potential, with a passion to serve society, and who are willing to strive for the betterment of the country and Hong Kong. Fifty Youth Ambassadors (YAs) will join a series of systematic and high-level training sessions, covering aspects such as public affairs, national and international developments, leadership skills and multi-faceted personal development, with a view to enriching their understanding of Hong Kong society and public affairs, broadening their horizons and enabling them to unleash their strengths and contribute to society.

Addressing the ceremony, Miss Mak said, "When the young people thrive, Hong Kong thrives." She pointed out that young people are the future, pillars and hope of society, and are also the engine that drives the long-term development of society and the economy. She said that the current-term Government is committed to addressing young people's concerns about education, career pursuit, entrepreneurship and home ownership. The Government is also committed to establishing more effective channels to gauge views from young people of different backgrounds, and creating more development opportunities for them.

Miss Mak said she hoped that the YDC Youth Ambassadors Programme could identify and nurture more young talents with a sense of responsibility and with aspirations, and that the YAs could seize the opportunities to deepen their understanding of Hong Kong, the country and the world, broaden their horizons while boosting their skills, and prepare themselves for taking up different posts in society in future so as to contribute to the continued development of Hong Kong. She said that she was confident about the future of Hong Kong and at the same time had confidence in the young people of Hong Kong. She expressed the hope that Hong Kong's young people would be "writing a rewarding chapter of their life with impassioned youth".

Also officiating at the kick-off ceremony today was the Vice-Chairman of the YDC, Mr Kenneth Leung. Other attending guests included members of the YDC.

The YDC Youth Ambassadors Programme was first introduced in 2017 and regularised in 2019. Building on past successful experience, the 2022 cycle of the Programme has been further enhanced, providing the YAs with unique and continuous training and development prospects.
