Free vaccination service at 16 Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations opens for reservations tomorrow
***************************************************************
The Government will set up 16 Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations across Hong Kong to provide more COVID-19 vaccination venues with greater convenience for the public. Starting from 9am tomorrow (August 27), members of the public can make reservations for vaccination services for free through the booking system on the designated website of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme (booking.covidvaccine.gov.hk).
Fifteen new vaccination stations will begin operation from September 1, while the remaining one will commence service on September 15. They will provide the Sinovac vaccine to persons aged 6 months or above and the BioNTech vaccine to persons aged 12 or above.
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, said, "Over 600 000 people and over 300 000 people received their second COVID-19 vaccine dose in March and April respectively. Since the six-month grace period under the Vaccine Pass for them is about to lapse, they need to receive their third COVID-19 vaccine doses in September or October. In addition, the minimum age for receiving the Sinovac vaccine has been lowered to 6 months old, and persons aged 50 or above who have received three vaccine doses can also receive the fourth vaccine dose at least three months after their last dose. Therefore, we must get prepared and increase the number of vaccination venues in September.
"In addition to making use of the existing medical facilities on the market to increase the daily vaccination throughput, the launch of Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations can also provide more choices that are more convenient and cosy to members of the public. We expect to set up another batch of Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations in October to further expand the distribution of vaccination venues in districts, and to give latitude for gradually taking over certain Community Vaccination Centres (CVCs) set up in sports centres.
"In the past, members of the public receiving vaccination at the venues under the ‘Provision of BioNTech vaccination at private healthcare institutions - Pilot Scheme’ must first visit the website of the vaccination programme for the list of institutions and then make appointments with the institutions themselves. The process was relatively complex. We hope to improve the service by launching the Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations to enable members of the public to make appointments at the designated website for receiving the Sinovac or BioNTech vaccine for free at the vaccination stations," she added.
The Private Clinic COVID-19 Vaccination Stations, operated by medical organisations that are experienced in the operation of CVCs or the Home Vaccination Service, are at locations with convenient transportation and fully equipped. The vaccination service is administered by medical professionals, and the procedures for receiving vaccination are similar to that in CVCs.
