Hospital Authority announces eight preliminary positive patient cases detected via admission screening or testing

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority today (February 13) announced the following preliminary positive COVID-19 patient cases detected via admission screening or testing:
      
     A 68-year-old male patient in a medical ward of Queen Mary Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 10. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Nine patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and were isolated for quarantine.
      
     Furthermore, an 83 years-old female patient in the medical and geriatric ward of Caritas Medical Centre tested preliminary positive yesterday (February 12). The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Nine patients who have stayed in the same cubicle are identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. An agency patient care assistant (PCA) of this medical ward also tested preliminarily positive today. The PCA's last working day was on February 12 and is in stable condition. 
      
     A 29-year-old female patient in a surgical ward of Princess Margaret Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 11. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Four patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. Meanwhile, a 52-year-old female patient in a medicine and geriatric ward tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 11. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Five patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.  Furthermore, a 73-year-old female patient in another medicine and geriatric ward tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 11. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. A nurse who had not worn eye protection when the patient was vomiting was identified as a close contact and required quarantine.
      
     A 97-year-old female patient in a medical ward of Yan Chai Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 11. She is being treated under isolation and is in serious condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Two patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
      
     Two male patients aged 71 and 81 respectively in an accident and emergency department observation ward of North District Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Two patients who stayed next to the two patients concerned in the same observation ward were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
      
     Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been performed in the affected areas by the hospitals. The hospitals will continue to communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation.
