Hospital Authority announces clusters of nosocomial infections of COVID-19

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
    The spokesman for the Hospital Authority made the following announcement today (February 12) on clusters of nosocomial infections of COVID-19:
 
     Regarding the cluster of cases in a medical ward announced by Caritas Medical Centre on February 10, one more nurse tested preliminarily positive and is in stable condition.
 
     Regarding the cluster of cases in a medical and geriatrics ward announced by Shatin Hospital yesterday (February 11), one nurse and one occupational therapist tested preliminarily positive. The two staff members are in stable condition.
 
     Following United Christian Hospital's announcement on 65-year-old female patient of a surgical ward confirmed positive for COVID-19 announced by on February 10, a 92-year-old female patient, who is one of the five close contacts of the patient concerned, tested preliminarily positive today.
 
     A nurse in a surgical ward of the Hong Kong Children's Hospital was preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19, following an executive assistant who was confirmed positive earlier. The ward has suspended admission of non-emergency new cases from last night till next Monday, while emergency services remain normal.

     Following a nursing staff of Yan Chai Hospital tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 earlier (February 8), one nurse who works in the same ward, being a close contact, tested preliminary positive for COVID-19 on February 11 during quarantine. Her last duty date is February 7. The staff concerned is in stable condition.
 
     Following a registered nurse working at emergency medicine ward at North Lantau Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 on February 6, an outsourced cleaner who worked in the same ward tested preliminarily positive yesterday. The concerned outsourced cleaner had performed cleansing in the ward and was equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment at work. The hospital's infection control team conducted contact tracing immediately, so far no hospital staff and patients were identified as close contact.
 
      A patient care assistant working in Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok tested positive for COVID-19 on February 10. The hospital's infection control team conducted contact tracing immediately and arranged testing for all patients in the ward concerned. One 90-year-old female patient tested positive on February 12. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. Three patients in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and required further monitoring. All staff members were equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment during patient care and none of them is identified as a close contact. Admission to the ward concerned had been suspended and thorough cleansing and disinfection were arranged.
 
     Regarding recent cases of patient care assistants (PCA) of physiotherapy department of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital has conducted contact tracing. One more PCA of the department who worked in the same ward tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 today. The PCA concerned is in stable condition. The hospital will investigate the linkage among cases tested positive for COVID-19 earlier. Thorough cleansing and disinfection were arranged in the department.
  
     Following Kwong Wah Hospital's announcement on a 31-year-old female patient in the gynaecology ward tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 on February 7, the hospital’s infection control team immediately conducted contact tracing and arranged testing for all patients in the cubicle and staff members concerned. One nurse tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19 yesterday and is now in stable condition.
 
     The hospitals will continue to closely monitor the health condition of patients and staff members and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation.
