153 validly nominated candidates for Legislative Council General Election

     The names of the 153 validly nominated candidates for the 2021 Legislative Council General Election were gazetted today (November 19). The number for each candidate on the ballot papers, which was determined by drawing of lots, was also announced.

     For the geographical constituency (GC) election, 35 candidates are validly nominated to compete for 20 seats in the 10 geographical constituencies.

     For the functional constituency (FC) election, there are 67 validly nominated candidates, and they will run for 30 seats in the functional constituencies.

     For the Election Committee constituency (ECC) election, a total of 51 validly nominated candidates will compete for 40 seats.

     Among the 154 nomination forms received during the nomination period, one nomination was ruled invalid by the Candidate Eligibility Review Committee. The information is set out below:

     "The Legislative General Council Election will be held on December 19. A total of over 620 ordinary polling stations and not more than 24 dedicated polling stations across Hong Kong will be open on the polling day for registered electors of all GCs and FCs to cast their votes. In addition, an ECC polling station will be set up at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for ECC electors to cast their ECC, GC and FC (if any) votes at the same time," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said.
 
     "The 4.47 million-odd registered GC electors can cast one vote each in their respective GC. About 219 000 registered electors of the 28 FCs can cast their votes to select the member(s) for their respective FC. Not more than 1 500 Election Committee members can cast their votes to select 40 members of the ECC," the spokesman said.
 
     The polling hours for the ordinary polling stations and the dedicated polling stations set up at police stations will be from 8.30am to 10.30pm. For the dedicated polling stations set up in penal institutions, for security reasons, the polling hours will be from 9am to 4pm.

     To ensure that the elections are conducted in an open, fair and honest manner, the Electoral Affairs Commission, the Registration and Electoral Office and the Independent Commission Against Corruption will continue to work closely to publicise clean election messages to members of the public and the candidates so as to help them familiarise themselves with the electoral arrangements and the relevant requirements.
