Wong Kar-wai retrospective featured at Five Flavours Asian Film Festival in Warsaw (with photo)

Every year, the Five Flavours Asian Film Festival, Poland's largest autumn film festival, brings a deeper insight into the most energetic and imaginative cinema from Southeast Asia. This year's directorial retrospective will be dedicated to one of most iconic figures of Hong Kong's cinematography: Wong Kar-wai. The retrospective includes seven of the director's extraordinary works - from his legendary film "Days Being Wild", defined by romance, love and dreams, to the urban landscape of Hong Kong through the tender portrayals of the inhabitants of the labyrinth city in "Chungking Express" and "Fallen Angels", and to the absorbingly mysterious, sensuous film "2046" which Wong Kar-wai conceived with impossible visual richness.
"Each of the film is a gem in Hong Kong's film industry, reflecting the unlimited potential and endless boundaries of Hong Kong's filmmakers. It is an exceptional opportunity to be able to watch seven Wong Kar-wai's intoxicating films on the big screen at Five Flavours Asian Film Festival this year" The Acting Director of HKETO Berlin, Ms Bonnie Ka, said in her opening speech of the Wong Kar-wai retrospective on November 17.
"The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has been supporting the creative industries over the years: In the 2021-22 Budget, an additional injection of HK$1 billion (around 500 million Zloty) into the CreateSmart Initiative to drive the development of the creative industries was announced. On top of that, an additional allocation of HK$900 million (around 460 million Zloty) was earmarked for the Art Development Matching Grants Scheme to further promote culture and arts from all sectors," Ms Ka told the audience.
Hong Kong as a hub for cultural events is also gaining momentum after the slowdown caused by the pandemic. The 45th Hong Kong International Film Festival was held in April this year in a hybrid format, which showcased over 190 films from 58 countries and regions. One month later in May, Art Basel debuted in Hong Kong with its first hybrid show since the pandemic. The event was a big success with strong sales across all levels of the market and positive responses from the participants.
