Two men were sentenced to 80 hours' community service order respectively by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (November 2) for assaulting a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officer and obstructing a public officer in the execution of duty.
The first defendant was convicted of obstructing a public officer in the execution of duty and common assault, while the second defendant was convicted of obstructing a public officer in the execution of duty.
On June 29 this year, the two defendants attempted to snatch seized goods and obstruct FEHD officers in the execution of duty during a blitz operation by the FEHD against shop front extensions in the vicinity of Chun Yeung Street, North Point. The first defendant also assaulted an FEHD officer. Around 73 kilograms of goods were seized during the operation.
"Violence against law enforcement officers is inappropriate and also carries legal consequences. Members of the public should co-operate with public officers in the execution of their duties," an FEHD spokesman said.
