Correctional officers stop assault on person in custody

At 10.45am today, a 33-year-old male person in custody attacked another 41-year-old male person in custody inside a dayroom. Officers at the scene immediately stopped him. OC foam was used to subdue the assailant after warnings were given but in vain.
During the incident, the victim sustained injury to his head. After examination and treatment provided by the institution Medical Officer, he was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant sustained injury to his arm. After treatment provided by the institution Medical Officer, he did not need to be sent to a public hospital.
The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.
The two persons in custody were sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of fraud and custody or control of counterfeit notes and coins respectively.
