HKSAR Government announces disqualification of legislator in accordance with NPCSC's Decision on qualification of HKSAR legislators

The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) today (August 26) determined that the proposed registration for being an ex-officio member of the Election Committee (EC) of a member of the sixth-term Legislative Council (LegCo) is not valid.
As stated in Annex I to the Basic Law, the CERC shall be responsible for reviewing and confirming the eligibility of candidates for being EC members (including ex-officio members). The Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR shall, on the basis of the review by the department for safeguarding national security of the Police Force of the HKSAR, make findings as to whether a candidate for EC member meets the legal requirements and conditions of upholding the Basic Law of the HKSAR of the People's Republic of China and swearing allegiance to the HKSAR of the People's Republic of China, and issue an opinion to the CERC in respect of a candidate who fails to meet such legal requirements and conditions. The relevant member of the sixth-term LegCo was decided in accordance with the law to have failed to fulfil the legal requirements and conditions on upholding the Basic Law and bearing allegiance to the HKSAR of the People's Republic of China.
According to the "Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Issues Relating to the Qualification of the Members of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" made on November 11, 2020, the HKSAR Government now announces that the following member of the sixth-term LegCo was immediately disqualified from being a LegCo member on August 26, 2021:
