In response to media enquiries that a number of books, written by a person suspected of breaching the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (National Security Law) and awaiting trials, are being displayed on the Librarians' Choice shelves of the Shek Tong Tsui Public Library, a spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) responded as follows:

The LCSD is conducting a rigorous and thorough investigation to find out the truth as soon as possible.

If any staff member is found to be involved in the issue, the LCSD will consult the relevant departments and handle the matter in a serious manner, in accordance with the established mechanism, and take appropriate actions.

With the promulgation of the National Security Law, Hong Kong Public Libraries must ensure that its collections are in compliance with the relevant law. The LCSD will seriously handle any collections that are suspected of breaching the law and suspend the services of the relevant books, as well as studying with the relevant departments if any content has violated the relevant law.
