CS visits temporary air-inflated laboratories (with photos/video)

     The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (September 12) called at the temporary air-inflated laboratories at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre in the Central and Western District to learn more about their operation.

     Mr Cheung conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the laboratories' staff members for their concerted effort and dedication in enabling members of the public to obtain their testing results as soon as possible after their specimens have been taken.

     Mr Cheung was briefed by Mr Wang Jian, Co-founder of BGI, and Professor Anthony Wu, Chairman of Sunrise Diagnostic Centre, on the manpower allocation and workflow for operating the laboratories, as well as the latest testing progress.

     He was also briefed by the responsible staff of Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre on the application of technology to help with the rationalisation of logistics and ensure that specimens collected from the community testing centres every day can be safely and promptly delivered to the laboratories.

     "Since the launch of the Universal Community Testing Programme (UCTP), over 1 448 000 specimens collected under the UCTP have been tested. I am most grateful to all parties working for the Programme, whether they work from the community testing centres or the laboratories. It is because of their dedication and sterling efforts that so many tests can be completed within a short period of time," he said.

     Mr Cheung expressed his warmest gratitude to the Central People's Government for its support in quickly establishing a support team to enhance the testing capability of Hong Kong in a short period of time to provide voluntary virus testing for Hong Kong citizens.

     Mr Cheung said that the Mainland nucleic acid test support team working in the laboratories, with its several hundred members, has been zealously working days and nights in handling the tests, adding that people were deeply impressed by the members' professionalism, selfless spirit and the great importance that they attached to the Programme.

     Noting that 23 confirmed cases have been detected from the tests under the Programme, which has been further extended to next Monday (September 14), Mr Cheung appealed to members of the public to seize the opportunity and lose no time in taking part in the Programme to protect the health of themselves and others.
